If you plug your equipment in prior to being activated on the nbn®, you may disconnect your existing services and potentially lose existing phone numbers. In order to maintain these numbers, it's important you wait for advice from us before you install your equipment.

Your nbn® connection box

You may already have this if you have previously connected to the nbn® network, or we will provide this to you.

A Business Modem

The below instructions are specifically for the Commander Business Modem. If you have opted to use your own modem, please refer to the manufacturer’s user guide provided with the device. 

Getting Connected

Select your Commander Business Modem model number (displayed on your device):

 

TPLINK VX420 modem

Disconnect all non-compatible devices from the telephone wall socket you intend to use for this nbn® service. This will ensure your nbn® service will work properly.

Connect the power adapters for both the modem and nbn® connection box to the power outlet.

Use the phone cable to connect to the grey port labelled “B” on the nbn connection box to your phone wall socket.

Use the network cable to connect to the yellow port labelled “C” on the nbn® connection box to your modem’s blue WAN port.

Turn on both devices and allow 15 minutes for auto-configuration. Three blue solid lights will display on the top of the nbn® connection box which will indicate it has correctly activated on the nbn® network. Once the setup has been completed, the modem will display solid lights for the Internet, and the WAN light will flash. If the lights aren’t displaying correctly, simply power cycle the modem.

Connect your device(s) by simply locating the Wi-Fi name (SSID) and Wi-Fi Password (Password/Pin) on the bottom of the Commander Business Modem. Alternatively, you can connect your device(s) directly (via cable) to one of the spare yellow LAN ports in the back of the modem.

For our Business Phone service, plug the network cable from the back of the handset into a free LAN Port. For our Business Line service, the port information is in your order completion email.

Your Commander Business Modem is now connected. If you need help, please call us at 132 777 (Option 3).

FAQs

What do the lights on my nbn® connection box mean?

The status lights are located under a sliding panel which is on top of the nbn® connection box.To see the lights, you will need to slide the panel.

Type Light Meaning What should I do?

Power

None The device is off. Plug in the device and switch the power outlet on.
Blue Power is running to the device. Nothing – this is normal.

Connection

None  The device isn’t connected to the nbn® network.  Checked all cables have been connected correctly.
Blue (Blinking) The device is starting up. Wait for setup to complete (allow up to 15 minutes). The light should then turn solid blue.
Blue The device is connected to the nbn® network.  Nothing – this is normal.
Red (Solid/Blinking) There may be a line fault or problem affecting the nbn® connection box. Turn off the power to the nbn® connection box and contact us.
Red/Blue (Alternating) There may be a line fault, such as an off-hook telephone. Disconnect all non-compatible devices from telephone wall sockets. If that doesn’t work, contact us.

DSL

None The device’s broadband link is down. If the Power and Connection lights are solid blue, but the DSL light is out, contact us.
Blue The device is DSL synchronised. Nothing – this is normal
Blue (Blinking) DSL synchronisation or a software update is in progress. Wait for the update to complete. The light should then turn solid blue.

LAN

None There is no Ethernet connection to the device. Check all cables have been connected correctly and your modem is switched on.
Blue/Amber (Solid/Blinking Data is flowing between the nbn® connection box and your Wi-Fi modem. Nothing – this is normal.

I plugged my nbn® connection box in and don’t get a solid blue connection light?

You may have plugged the device into an incorrect telephone socket within your premises. If you have more than one wall socket, try plugging the nbn® connection box into it to see if the status light changes to indicate that it's online. If you are still unable to connect to the nbn®, please contact us for assistance.

How do I reset my nbn® connection box?

Simply press and hold the ‘RESET’ button on the side of the device for 1-2 seconds. This will cause indicator lights to blink for several minutes. 

NOTE: Re-establishing your internet connection may take up to 15 minutes, although it will usually be quicker.

Will devices connected to the nbn® network work in a power outage?

Equipment connected over the nbn® FTTC network will not work during a power blackout.
